PLACES & TRAVEL

1) The journal I found at the Bryce Canyon Visitor Center.

2) A place for thoughts, ideas, and small reminders

3) Small enough to carry with me every day.

4) A place that reminds me to slow down and look deeper.

5) To document life — one photo, one note, one day at a time.

A couple of weeks ago, during our trip to Bryce Canyon National Park, I bought a small journal from the visitor center.

It wasn’t expensive or fancy. What caught my attention was the simple brown cover and the size — about 5x8 inches. Small enough to carry easily, but still big enough to write comfortably.

I’m not even sure if the cover is real leather. But when I picked it up, it felt like something I would actually use.

That mattered to me.

I’ve realized that the best camera, notebook, or tool is usually the one you don’t mind carrying every day. The one that quietly becomes part of your routine instead of something you leave at home waiting for the “right time.”

Maybe that’s why I bought it. Not just to write in it, but to slow down a little and pay more attention.

Lately, I’ve been thinking more about documenting life — through photographs, short notes, and small observations that normally disappear into busy days. Nothing dramatic. Just ordinary moments that may one day become meaningful memories.

I can already imagine this little notebook slowly filling up over time:

photo ideas,
quiet thoughts,
camera settings,
places we visited,
small moments at home,
and pieces of life I don’t want to forget.

Simple things.

The kind of things that don’t seem important now, but probably will later.

Maybe this journal is not really about writing.

Maybe it’s about learning to notice life again.
